PITTSBURGH, PA (Dec. 12, 2011) ITxM and Geisinger Health Systems are launching a non-profit joint venture agreement for a blood center operation in central Pennsylvania.

ITxM is recognized as a leader in donor services and transfusion medicine, while Geisinger Health System is acknowledged as an innovative and patient-focused health services provider. This collaboration will bring additional transfusion medicine expertise to Geisinger including improving blood product inventory management, a more robust blood management program and clinical trials that were previously unavailable to patients.

"As world class leaders within our respective industries, it makes sense for our organizations to pursue the opportunity to work together and fulfill our common vision of providing the highest level of impact on patient care," said James P. Covert, President and CEO of ITxM. "By establishing a blood center in the central and northeast Pennsylvania communities that Geisinger currently serves, together we can insure that the best practices are delivered to patients in the area of transfusion medicine."

The joint venture will be donor friendly and service oriented. A major goal of the joint venture is to collect and distribute blood locally in the Geisinger service area. It is intended that blood collected within the service region will be used locally for Geisinger patients. Donors will know they are helping families, friends and neighbors in their community.
