A subsidiary of The Institute For Transfusion Medicine(sm),
TxM Consulting
Group was formed in 1994 in response to inquiries from hospitals and blood centers seeking
to restructure the way transfusion medicine was practiced in their institutions and
communities. The Group's scope of activities has since expanded to include work in the
area of hospital-based laboratory network development. Its professional staff is comprised
of individuals with expertise in the medical, technical, marketing, information
technology, logistics, and management facets of running a world-class transfusion medicine
organization.
TxM Consulting Group's special expertise lies in two principal areas.
The first is the restructuring of transfusion medicine practices in hospitals, healthcare
facilities and transfusion entities. Blood products typically represent the single largest
line item in an institution's laboratory budget. TxM analyzes the procedures by which
blood is collected, tested, stocked, manipulated, issued, and used, as well as the means
by which this use is controlled and reviewed. All these factors have an impact on the
total expenses. Based on its analysis of the individual procedures, TxM Consulting aids in
formulating a change plan to improve overall efficiency.
The other specialized area of TxM Consulting Group involves the
integration of transfusion services across an enterprise or between enterprises. The
ability to operationally structure multiple laboratory sites within a single system is a
skill which can achieve both efficiencies and competitive enhancements in a managed care
environment.
The objective of TxM Consulting Group is to assist its clients with the
development, communication, and initiation of an operational change plan. The Group does
not believe that "assessments" are appropriate end products. Instead, the Group
guides clients through the crucial steps which are necessary to catalyze an opportunity
into action. The Group's involvement in general assessments is used as a foundation to
support a detailed change management plan.
TxM Consultants are unique in that they:
 | Have built the country's most active integrated transfusion service |
 | Have played a front-line role in changing blood consumption practices in
tertiary care centers |
 | Have assembled the country's largest network of hospital-based
laboratories |
 | Are oriented to change management, not just assessment - and have
implemented a number of such plans successfully |
 | Ensure that members of the client laboratory, as well as members of the
hospital staff, share a sense of comfort in the expectations of the change management plan |
